“Talking about gender for most people is the equivalent of fish talking about water”. Gender is all around us all of the time, so often we don’t notice the many ways it may have impacted our lives. Our busy lives mean we don’t often stop to think about how we pick up messages about gender, or whether we actually agree with those messages or not. The messages might be different, intended for certain audiences and not others, but when you start to look for them, you’ll soon notice that they’re always there.

If you’d be interested in thinking more and talking about gender and the impact it has on our lives, you’ll find this course interesting. The sessions will be open-minded, respectful and accepting, covering some theory, talking about feminism and the media and discussing gender diversity and the future of gender. There will be opportunities to develop some skills, particularly relating to critical thinking and research, as well as time for discussion and some gentle debate. If you have any questions about the course, please feel free to email the tutor, Ethan, at e.butteriss1@yorksj.ac.uk.
